The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

Appropriately named, you'll never get a better sense of destruction than in this game. This is combined with an excellent sense of mobility: two attributes I wouldn't usually pair. You get the thrill of running and jumping through the city at high speeds and bashing though everything in your way. Unfortunately the game never excels past it's base design. The missions are pretty basic, but they generally remain a decent enough vehicle for destruction. The story is even more sparse, you'll never get invested in anything going on in the game.

I am a big fan of the TV show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am a big fan of the game: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Those statements are not connected. The atmosphere in the game is forgettable and is never as good as the worst episodes of the TV series. Fortunately the combat in the game is fantastic. While some of the enemies aren't that great and take far too many hits to kill, no other melee focused games ever gets close to the satisfaction of fighting vampires in this game. Whenever you fight a vampire you finish them with a stake through the heart which you can do regardless of their health if they're in a vulnerable state. But you're vulnerable too, this makes for excellent fast-paced combat that never ends up being button-mashing.

BulletstormPeople Can Fly (2011)

The best use of kicking in a game ever! Shoot, kick, leash... that's two more ways to kill than are in most games and the added variety sure make a big difference. The variety doesn't end there either. Bulletstorm is the only game that does a variety of absurd weapons well: every weapon in the game is both unique and effective. Additionally the game takes the typical military atmosphere so ever-present in FPSs and turns it on it's head. Yes, the main characters are soldiers... but there isn't an ounce of honor or duty present and that's a very good thing.

007: Blood Stone

If you're playing this game as just another cover shooter you're playing it wrong. The best feature of the game is the melee attacks: you can take down any enemy with a single button press. I always like effective melee attacks in shooters and this is the absolute best implementation. When this is combined with the sprinting and focus shots (which you earn with melee) the game becomes a very active and fast-paced shooter, bested only by Uncharted. If you spend the game hiding behind cover you may die less but you won't have much fun either.

Assault on Dark Athena is full of poorly designed levels that focus on shooting, the worst of the three game types in Escape From Butcher Bay (shooting, stealth, melee combat). Fortunately Assault on Dark Athena includes a remake of Escape From Butcher Bay which remains a great game with great stealth and excellent atmosphere. Because the remake is included Assault on Dark Athena is better by default. Individually Assault on Dark Athena gets a 5.5 out of 10, while Escape From Butcher Bay gets an 9.0 out of 10.
