  • MediEvil#478 in All Time Favorite Games#8MediEvilkong2007's opinion: One of the best games of the 5th generation! Some have compared it to Ocarina of Time gameplay-wise. A great hack and slash adventure through a colorful gothic 18th century Europe. The levels and enemies are imaginative and the main character is very likeable.
  • Metal Gear Solid#16 in All Time Favorite Games#9Metal Gear Solidkong2007's opinion: The best game of the 5th generation. This game revolutionized cinematics for video games. It also has great espionage gameplay, a fantastic soundtrack, and great characters. This game has a great story of brother vs brother and nuclear war hanging in the balance.
  • Half-Life#33 in All Time Favorite Games#10Half-Life
  • Grandia II#510 in All Time Favorite Games#11Grandia IIkong2007's opinion: The graphics are horrible, there are audio and visual glitches, and the animation is minimal, but this is one of my favorite RPGs of the 6th generation. The plot and story is great, the characters are well rounded and likeable, and the music and combat system are fantastic.
  • Halo: Combat Evolved#43 in All Time Favorite Games#12Halo: Combat Evolvedkong2007's opinion: The best first-person shooter of the 6th generation. The mechanics are perfect, the world is colorful and imaginative, and the story doesn't get in the way of the adventure... if that makes sense.
  • Resident Evil 4#24 in All Time Favorite Games#13Resident Evil 4
  • Hitman: Blood Money#229 in All Time Favorite Games#14Hitman: Blood Moneykong2007's opinion: Hitman Blood Money is one of the best games of the 6th generation. The more methodical you are, the more rewarding the experience is. One of the best things is how many different ways you can complete each mission.
  • Shadow of the Colossus#18 in All Time Favorite Games#15Shadow of the Colossuskong2007's opinion: A must play of the 6th generation. The score is epic, the mechanics are minimalistic, and the story & plot are simple but powerful. Its hard to find so many thrills in one game. Oh, and have the tissues ready!
  • Kingdom Hearts II#53 in All Time Favorite Games#16Kingdom Hearts IIkong2007's opinion: My favorite RPG of the 6th generation behind Morrowind. It's great for the same reasons the first game was great except the battle system is a lot more action orientated and exciting.
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater#30 in All Time Favorite Games#17Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eaterkong2007's opinion: MGS3 is simpler than MGS2 and straightforward. But it is equally as good. The gameplay begins to feel a little imperfect for an outdoor environment but what makes up for any faults are the great characters and the epic soundtrack. Also, probably THE greatest ending of a video game of all time.
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind#50 in All Time Favorite Games#18The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowindkong2007's opinion: The best RPG of the 6th generation! The world is imaginative, the number of items to collect and use is vast, and the flexibility in how you make your character is great. Factions to work for, countless dungeons to explore, and creatures to fight.
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves#22 in All Time Favorite Games#19Uncharted 2: Among Thieveskong2007's opinion: -Great 3rd person shooter gameplay -Amazing visuals and animation -Edge of your seat adventure -Constant excitement and wit -Multiplayer is great
  • Resident Evil 5#320 in All Time Favorite Games#20Resident Evil 5kong2007's opinion: People bash on this game too much. It has the gameplay of Resident Evil 4, but you can do it with a person this time! Writing and characters are a little weak but the game is a blast to go through with a friend and find and trade equipment and share a couple of scares and a lot of adrenalin.
  • Mass Effect 2#4 in All Time Favorite Games#21Mass Effect 2kong2007's opinion: Mass Effect 2 begins with Shepard dying but being rebuilt by a private company called Cerberus who wants his (or her) help against the Collectors: an enigmatic race supposedly working for the Reapers and preparing for their invasion. I love Mass Effect 2 and it has one of the most exciting and engaging last 2 hours of any game. Player choice still plays a huge role in Mass Effect 2. It is still fun do decide small aspects of the story with dialog and morality choices. Most improved are the visuals and gameplay. The RPG elements have been simplified, but it still works well. There are even more characters to recruit and almost all of them are awesome and have dynamic personal missions for you to do.
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim#3 in All Time Favorite Games#22The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimkong2007's opinion: This is one of the best possible games you can get for your money. It has potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay. This game takes place a couple hundred years after Oblivion and dragons are returning to the land of Skyrim which spells inevitable doom. Of course the best things about The Elder Scrolls games are your own character customization and progression, and the detailed vast worlds to explore. Not only that but there is the main story to follow, many factions to join, or you can just wander forever exploring random dungeons, forts, and old castles fighting bandits, wizards, the undead, and all kinds of animals and creatures. Not only is the world bigger and more detailed than ever, but the combat, visuals, and music have improved
  • Red Dead Redemption#12 in All Time Favorite Games#23Red Dead Redemptionkong2007's opinion: This game is awesome. It's not only one of the best open world games but it is the best western game ever made by far. Every inch of this game's world is dripping with authentic wild west atmosphere. You are John Marsten, a man who is being forced to hunt down the old members of his previous notorious gang in order to free his family. The gameplay is great and the world is extremely authentic, but arguabley one of the best parts of this game is the writing, voice acting, and animation. If you weren't into westerns before, you will definitely be into them after you play Red Dead Redemption: the best game Rockstar has ever made.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots#56 in All Time Favorite Games#24Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the...kong2007's opinion: Metal Gear Solid 4 is not for everyone, but it is personally my favorite game of all time. This is Solid Snake's final mission. He has to stop his power hungry brother who wants to send the whole world into chaos by eliminating the illusive and seemingly invincible Patriots. The story is convoluted but die hard fans of the series will be extremely satisfied. The gameplay is great. Metal Gear Solid 4 gives you enough options to play anywhere from John Rambo to a pure high tech stealth soldier. Not only is the gameplay great but the visuals are terrific as well as the writing, voice acting, animation, and score. If you can stand the long cut scenes, you will be rewarded with one of the most dramatic video games ever.

  • Mass Effect 3#15 in Best Current Favorites#3Mass Effect 3kong2007's opinion: Unfortunately this game will always be remembered as being great but has one of the worst endings in video game history. But that shouldn't deter you. Up until the last 15 minutes, this game is amazing. It's the build up of everything since the beginning of Mass Effect in 2007. As Shepard, you have to rally all of the advanced races in order to have any chance against the Reapers who have already undergone their galaxy-wide extinction process. The gameplay is as good as it's been in the Mass Effect series, the dialog and moral choices through out the game are still interesting and thought provoking, and the game finally has a great balance when it comes to weapon equipping and modifying and character stat progression.

  • Mass Effect#34 in Best Current Favorites#5Mass Effectkong2007's opinion: A lot of great new IPs came out in 2007 but the best in my opinion is Mass Effect. The player controls Shepard and needs to form a team and work against an elite ex government soldier who is seemingly assisting a process of galactic extermination executed by a hyper advanced race called the Reapers. This is the beginning of one of the best science fiction fantasies in all media. The new creatures and races are awesome and imaginative, the history behind the galaxy and its races is deep and interesting, and the weapons, armor, and other science fiction aesthetics are unique and memorable. Only a few technical glitches keep this game from being pure bliss.

Dungeon Siege

Review written Monday, April 2nd, 2012 at 03:32 am.

8.5Fantastic

Simple and great. My first point and click hack 'n slash. It's similar to Diablo in that you go a long time with party members through different kinds of dungeons and collect loot and practice your skills. Civilization is not common, so buy all the health potions every chance you get!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Review written Monday, April 2nd, 2012 at 03:31 am.

9.0Fantastic

Terrific stealth gameplay and espionage action. Flexibility in play styles allow you to tackle a mission how you want. There's usually 2 ways to get something done and its fun to discover secrets and upgrade the main character.

Portal 2Valve Software (2011)

Portal 2

Review written Tuesday, March 27th, 2012 at 11:26 pm.

8.5Fantastic

No level designers are better than those on the Valve Software team. The puzzle are genius and the 2 characters have terrific personality. The ambiguity of the story and the lack of other things to do keep Portal 2 from being legendary.

PrototypeRadical Entertainment (2009)

Prototype

Review written Thursday, March 1st, 2012 at 06:20 am.

7.0Good

There are few games where you play a more powerful character than in Prototype. You can transform your arms into weapons such as claws, a blade, hammers, etc. Let loose in a large Manhattan Island and you have a good time terrorizing citizens or the military forces. Worth it for what it costs these days.

Assassin's Creed: RevelationsUbisoft Montreal (2011)

Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Review written Thursday, March 1st, 2012 at 06:16 am.

7.0Good

"Revelations" still has the great free roaming and fighting mechanics from previous games as well as the deep real life history and historical accuracy. A couple new modes like bomb making and tower defense was pretty needless. Doesn't have the satisfying pay off I was hoping for in the story either. Get this if you like the Assassin's Creed series later on for a reduced price.

Kingdoms of Amalur: ReckoningBig Huge Games (2012)

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Review written Thursday, March 1st, 2012 at 06:11 am.

8.0Great

"Reckoning" is a good buy for your buck. It's got a huge, diverse, colorful world to explore. The ability to re-distrubute all of your skill points at almost any time makes this game unique (and useful for those who can't make up their mind). The combat is smooth and fun, but the story is weak and the lore is hard to keep track of. Justifiable to get for full price if you really like sprawling RPGs.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2Team Ninja (2009)

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Review written Thursday, March 1st, 2012 at 05:46 am.

8.0Great

Incredibly deep and fluid hack 'n slash gameplay. Ryu is a stoic badass ninja surrounded by adoring beautiful women. The amount of melee weapons you can unlock and upgrade means you don't have to stick with the standard katana. Well worth it for its price these days. By now this game should be in the bargain bin and is completely worth it!

The DarknessStarbreeze Studios (2007)

The Darkness

Review written Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 at 08:06 pm.

7.5Great

This game is a 1st person adventure/shooter. It's dark and dreary and takes place in lower Manhattan. There's regular 1st person shooter gunplay but what makes it unique are the powers of the Darkness. Stabbing, minion summoning, stealth kills, black hole conjuring, etc.

Mortal Kombat (2011)NetherRealm Studios (2011)

Mortal Kombat (2011)

Review written Monday, January 16th, 2012 at 12:17 pm.

8.0Great

Mortal Kombat is great. Great smooth frame rate, good fighting mechanics, variety of cool characters, and a lot of extras really make it one of the best fighters of this generation. It's the best Mortal Kombat to date and wont disappoint fans.
