All Time Top 25 Games

  • Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem#346 in All Time Favorite Games#1Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requi...FlakyPorcupine's opinion: Long before you dismember necromorphs in Dead Space and had Psycho Mantis playing those fourth wall-breaking tricks on you, we had Eternal Darkness doing both of these. Aside from its famous sanity effects (which are everything you have heard about and more), you will find that this game has a very well-written plot with obvious influence from Lovecraftian works that are done real well. The game has a fairly large cast of likable characters and that's including the three villainous Gods you fight against as well. This game is willing to take risks, and at the end of each chapter your character may wind up dead or as good as. With pretty much everything perfect, although some may complain about its combat system, I absolutely love it!
  • Team Fortress 2#27 in All Time Favorite Games#2Team Fortress 2FlakyPorcupine's opinion: Now a free game, Team Fortress 2 lives up to its hype without the excuse of not having enough money to pay no more, although you get more if you buy something in the store, but you can still enjoy being a free-to-player. Having a more cartoony approach to its graphics, TF2 is something that does not take itself very seriously. Each packed with humorous diolauge, each class is very different and contributes their own part to the team. With constant updates being installed, it is foolish NOT to try this.
  • The Walking Dead#61 in All Time Favorite Games#3The Walking DeadFlakyPorcupine's opinion: In an age where FPS games rule over pretty much everything else, the Walking Dead strays from that path. This is a risky thing to do, since it's a zombie game, but the charm comes from the fact that it shows that humans can be just as animalistic and bloodthirsty as your typical walking corpse in the form of well-written characters and frightening, but realistic choices that questions your own morality. They're not easy to make and you don't get a lot of time thinking about them. The game has simplistic gameplay otherwise, it is a puzzle game that requires a lot of problem and solution, sometimes trial and error, but it adds rather than hurts it. This game is one that will pull on every emotion that one is able to feel.
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl#25 in All Time Favorite Games#4Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • Doom#108 in All Time Favorite Games#5DoomFlakyPorcupine's opinion: So what can be said about Doom? Besides kicking off the FPS genre, having one of the best original soundtracks back in the day (and even today!), and having very impressive graphics that to this stay still stun me every time I pop it in? Doom is one of the definitions of classic, a very important game to this day that has clearly stood the test of time even after the ninties. The level of detail in each stage is amazing and atmospheric, with an impress range of guns including the BIG FUCKING GUN 9000, rightfully named so. The Doom marine, Doomguy, whatever you want to call him is still one of my favorite video game heroes and idols to this day. Move over Master Chief, Doomguy will always be my favorite space marine!

  • Mortal Kombat (2011)#289 in All Time Favorite Games#15Mortal Kombat (2011)FlakyPorcupine's opinion: After years of releasing less-than-steller 3-D games that barely make a mark, Mortal Kombat suddenly returns stronger than ever with it returning back to its roots in more ways than one. For those who still get a kick out of fatalities, they are a LOT more gruesome this time around. Not to mention the new X-ray moves, which are similar to Brutalities without the excess amount of bones flying about. The story takes place before and after the events of the games at the same time, and it actually overhauls the story without ruining the experience or the original quite well. I think that if this didn't have the tendency to make fights end with whoever juggles first, this would have been perfect.
  • Left 4 Dead#146 in All Time Favorite Games#16Left 4 DeadFlakyPorcupine's opinion: With an outstanding multiplayer, Left 4 Dead is one of the leading games in the multiplayer zombie games and rightfully so. Not reliant on story outside of character personalities and their pasts and graffittii from other survivors, Left 4 Dead is entirely focused on its gameplay, which is really good. Versus is probably the most notable mode to pick out, as players will find themselves switching in between playing as the survivors and special infected alike. It is an experience like no other, but the game falls short on single player. Very minimal, if you don't have a friend or access to the Internet, it is almost not worth the buy entirely, which is a shame.

SoulCalibur VProject Soul (2012)

SoulCalibur V

Review written Monday, April 15th, 2013 at 10:06 pm.

3.0Bad

This has to be the absolute lowpoint of the series. First of all, this game is roughly less than half finished, and it really shows. The story is thrown out the window completely at this point, ruined in every possible way. The fighting is too fast-paced and no stradegy is involved whatsoever. Thus, the inclusion of guard burst is a waste as it only hinders the players with no reward. Here we have the stereotypical "supermove". Also, this game lacks less characters than the other recent games and excluded way too many of them. I see where they were going with it, but the new characters are unreemable. What were they thinking? Only character creation has been improved, everything else is unremarkable and rushed to all hell.

Mortal Kombat 4Midway (1998)

Mortal Kombat 4

Review written Sunday, April 14th, 2013 at 05:11 pm.

7.5Great

This game sparked my interest in a playland of sorts which no longer exists. What is this violent game doing near the slides and the ballpit? While this is not my first Mortal Kombat experience, this one shocked me even more than the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 game I owned. First off, it's in 3-D, and it transitions well into it I find. The fatalities are very cool and unique for their time, the infamous pit I love. But this game fails on a graphical and sound level. It's unappealing to the eye and the voice acting (as well as the script) is just laughable. Overall, a plus to the series.

SCP: Containment Breach_Individual Developer (2012)

SCP: Containment Breach

Review written Monday, April 8th, 2013 at 06:05 pm.

5.0Average

SCP: Containment Breach is a game inspired by a creepypasta, much like the overrated Slender series of games. The difference here is that SCP tries to create a story as opposed to just an objective, but it fails at this department as the story is confusing and uninteresting. The game is also very vague in its enemies. If you don't read about it on the internet, it would be hard to guess that the first SCP you encounter can only be avoided with direct eye contact. That said, the blinking system is done very well and the game offers some variety in its otherwise dull gameplay.

7.5Great

As the user below me pointed out, this game has lag. And this becomes a major problem. Imagine this game from one of the most brutal and difficult series in gaming and add lag to it. You're going to get slaughtered! When there are too many sprites on screen, the whole game slow downs. But I find that jumping over and avoiding enemies are the best approach. Other than that, the game is decent and more or less plays the same with some appealing music and graphics

LITWayForward (2009)

LIT

Review written Wednesday, March 27th, 2013 at 05:50 pm.

7.0Good

When I read about LIT in an issue of Nintendo Power, I found the concept to be interesting. Creatures of the dark and you have to manipulate objects around you to create a path of light? It sounds really fun! And this is on the whole scale. The boss fights are pretty fun too. But the problem I have is that some objects are a little too obscure. I don't know what would be a television, for example, unless I try to turn it on. It would be a suicidal misson, as I would be dangerously close to the darkness.

Review written Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 at 07:45 pm.

8.0Great

Arising from the ancient crypts that is arcade gaming, the two sequels of House of the Dead return in all of their glory. And by that, I mean neither game undergoes any major changes whatsoever. House of the Dead 2 hasn't age well, and I think that free play should have been availible from the start. All of the good and faults of both games remain pleasent, but it is nice to use a Wii remote. Better than those lightguns that are more likely than not broken at the arcades at least.

Review written Sunday, March 24th, 2013 at 04:47 am.

7.5Great

A cute children's game that offers some good puzzle-solving and trial and error gameplay. While not entirely original, some things such as the concept of Zack's sidekick Wiki interested me, although it is very confusing. A monkey turning into an inanimate object to turn others into inanimate objects...what? The puzzles seem a little unpredictible in their difficulty, there were times where I felt that a puzzle would suddenly turn out a bit tougher in odd parts of the game. There isn't a lot of replayability, just kind of a finish it once deal.

Pokemon ChannelAmbrella (2003)

Pokemon Channel

Review written Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at 11:43 pm.

5.0Average

To describe what this game is, it is more or less an expansion on the idea that Hey You! Pikachu provided us, sans the ability to directly communicate. Here, you get your own Pikachu and do several activities with it. Watching television, going to concerts, playing checkers, swimming, playing truth or false, and of course interacting with other Pokemon. The game is pretty nifty for what it is, delving into virtual reality moreso than the other Pokemon spin-off game, and does it rather well. That is, unless you are an adult rather than a child. Then the game is most likely not going to interest you AT ALL.

PongAtari (1972)

Pong

Review written Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at 06:06 am.

6.0Fine

And here we are. Looking back, one could realize how games have changed since back then (The ball is a square!) to now. Many call this old school or primitive, but this has unspeakable legacy and innovation for its time. Hard to imagine now, but this game was amazing for its time for a reason, and Pong goes down in history as one of the most respected games. Rated this a six because I still prefer this over Call of Duty or Halo.

Galaga '88Namco (1987)

Galaga '88

Review written Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at 04:31 am.

8.0Great

This is an amazing game, adding to the charm and appeal to the original Galaga. Now, I didn't play this game back in the day, but the idea of forming a triple ship must have been an amazing experience first time playing, it was for me at least.
