- The Sega Saturn was released in November of 1994 in Japan and it was the first console of the company to feature three-dimensional game worlds. In the 5th Generation of gaming, this 32-bit machine competed against the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64. As part of its competition strategy, Sega publicly planned to release the console in late 1995 in North America - but surprisingly announced to ship the console worldwide four months earlier. This didn't fare well with third party developers, retailers and many more, which is one of the reasons why it wasn't that popular outside of Japan. Its library however did feature some one-of-a-kind games which can be seen below.
