Super Meat Boy

  • Developed by Team Meat (2010) on Xbox 360, PC
  • Action > 2D Platformer
  • Super Meat Boy is a tough-as-nails platformer where you play as an animated cube of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend (who happens to be made of bandages) from an evil fetus wearing a tux who lives in a jar. Leap from walls, jump over seas of buzz saws, and run through crumbling caves and pools of old needles. Super Meat Boy relives the old school difficulty of classic retro platformers and streamlines it down to the essentials, no BS, just straight-forward twitch reflex platforming, and all while sacrificing his own well-being to save his damsel in distress.

It's Super Meat Boy. That's all I'll say for this game as it speaks for itself.

10Classic!

Super Meat Boy is just what you want a platform game to be. Offering a challenge while also having brilliant controls, making everything feel justified. This game is just so damn fun and goofy and I love it to bits. While game developers are just pumping out the already stale and boring army-shooters, it feels good to have something so refreshing once in a while. SMB shows us that somewhere in the midst of all the unoriginal games there is a glimmering light waiting to be found. Along with other great indie titles.

9.5Classic!

The simplicity and back to roots platforming is why I love this game, I'm no game reviewer but If you haven't played this game, go play it; at the very least play the free flash version "Meat Boy".

8.0Great

An extremely tough game, but it's never boring, it can be frustrating, but that's quickly forgotten. The music and overall quality of the game though, you won't forget.

9.0Fantastic

Meat Boy was one of my favourite flash games, but this retail version takes the formula Edmund McMillen created and perfects it in every conceivable way. The controls are beautiful - Meat Boy's movement feels so natural, and every death is by the fault of the player, not the control scheme. The level design is also fantastic, with a huge range of mechanics gradually introduced to the player, meaning boredom rarely occurs. What really impresses me though is the HUGE amount of content the game offers - hundreds of levels ranging in difficulty, with even a level editor thrown in there for some extra fun. The game's biggest flaw is a poorly designed boss fight around the middle of the game, but this hardly distracts from the awesomeness.
