Latest Microreviews on Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Review written Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at 03:32 am.

Yoshi's Island is one of my top fifty favorite games of all time, but like any game, it has some flaws. The level design can be problematic for 100% completion due to this installment's nasty habit of locking you out of an area once you've gone too far. Since the levels are all absurdly long, it often results in having to replay the twenty minute level all over again just because you've missed a few red coins. It turns this otherwise exciting game into a complete drag. Also, just to get this out of the way, Baby Mario is annoying. I have no idea why some people are willing to defend this obnoxious character when all he does is scream at the top of his lungs whenever you get hit. Other than that, Yoshi's Island is fantastic.

When you think of innocent and fun you think Yoshi's Island!. I think this game has one of the best gameplay in history, really cool and cheerful soundtrack, and it has one of my favorite Nintendo character... Yoshi! Also the platforming in this title is 100% perfect, i haven't seen such gameplay, such colorful graphics and such charisma in a game!

OH MY GOD NOSTALGIA! I played this game almost non-stop, as a kid. There seemed like so much to do and I never felt like I was done. I beat it over and over and over and over and over again.

Yoshi's Island is 2D platforming perfection. It combines brilliant gameplay mechanics with an amazing art style and a great soundtrack. With all of the standard Mario games, it's refreshing to see something so unique.

Nostalgia at its finest.

Yoshi's Island will always be one of the games which I will always be able to pick up and play, and it'll reliably bring a smile to my face. With an impressive and stylish look, the game is easy on the eyes and an absolute joy to play. The mechanics behind all your actions are pitch perfect, and every level is a joy to navigate and explore. The music is on par with the visuals, being memorable and unquestionably awesome.. especially during the boss fights! Shit, the boss battles are some of the best in any game, each offering a new spin on what you've learned though out the world. The game never overstays its welcome, nor does it leave you wanting more; it satisfies me in a way few other games can.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Review written Wednesday, April 17th, 2013 at 12:01 pm.

Falls somewhat short of perfection due to "random bonus outline crap everywhere" syndrome intruding on its otherwise very unique, simple art design, and the difficulty curve is a bit dumb in places (hello unnecessarily long ski level). Also feels a bit overly long. Is that really a criticism? Well, yeah. I would have traded like 8 of the cave levels for a couple more good platforming stages. Anyway, basically good.
