  • Axel, Adam and Blaze - ex-cops, the solution to punk pollution. The city's a war zone, and they're going out two at a time to give the gangs a kick in the guts. This is the ultimate in street combat. These city fighters are martial arts maniacs with a battery of 40 individually controllable attacks - including jabs, head butts, and overhead kicks. They're up against a mob of Kung-Fu creeps and axe-hurling fiends. On the streets it's only two of them against hordes of attacking scum. Slam into pipe-wielding weirdos and bash 'em with their own metal. Throw an uppercut or an elbow smash - these goons keep comin'!

While not nearly as good as Streets of Rage 2, this is a really solid beat 'em up in my opinion. Unlike most beat 'em ups, this game has a more modern theme to it, and it works. Beaches riddled with litter, walls painted with graffiti and torn posters, thugs left and right - it perfectly captures the theme it's going for. It also provides a really fun time with a friend when playing in co-op. This game launched the best beat 'em up series of all time and I love it.

This may well have been the first video game I ever played. Loved playing with a friend but could never pass the game. Probably because I was only 5 years old.

This is without a doubt one of the best Beat Em Ups of all time. This game has an AMAZING soundtrack especially considering how limited the Genesis sound chip was. It had 3 very likeable characters, many memorable bosses and stages, all unique, and had this great tightness in it's controls and gameplay that neither of it's sequels managed to reproduce. It felt so good, and is extremely challenging, not to the point of ridiculousness but to the point where the more you played it the better you became at it, and that felt really good. The only problems were certain ways you could exploit the system to make all the fights easier for you, but that's something you'll only do if you're really trying to. This get's my highest kudos

Amazing game, but looks pale compared to SoR2 & 3.

Streets of rage has to be one of if not the best beat 'em up series. That said, the 2nd was a big improvement over this one.

Streets of Rage was one of my favorite games for the old Genesis that I had when I was a kid. It's very simple: play as one of three ex-cops and beat up the entire city's mob single-handedly. Nothing to get confused about there. The gritty levels, memorable bosses, and *amazing* soundtrack keeps me coming back to play it even now, so that's pretty special.

Fantastic, this is how every 'beat'em up' must be. I always was a 'Final Fight' fan, but this game (and this series) can beat its rivals with a single punch. Great characters, amazing soundtrack and good scenarios (I love the 80s) mixed with a simple gameplay are the formula to the sucess.

Kept me entertained as a child, any game that can do that is good.

Classic beat 'em up game, although it failed to surpass Golden Axe in my opinion.

When everyone else was making half-assed rip offs of Final Fight, Sega took the time to carefully polish something that far outshone even Final Fight itself. This is a must have for the Genesis library.
