Latest Microreviews on Street Fighter II

Street Fighter II Review written Tuesday, April 26th, 2016 at 01:56 am.

Street Fighter II is about as good as arcade games get. It didn't have a story, because it doesn't need one. Easily one of the most fun games strictly by gameplay, and the characters have interesting designs and move sets that make you want to use all of them. It is rather challenging at first, but you will slowly find the strengths of your fighter and battle to victory. Endless replayability and fun sights and sounds combine for a great arcade game. My main concern was the poor controls for the SNES port, but you eventually will figure out which ones are punch and which are kick. As I said, this is as good as it gets for an arcade game, which makes it forgivable to not have a story or good console controls.

The game that revolutionized the fighting genre, and still the greatest to this day. Street Fighter II strikes hard thanks to well balanced gameplay, crisp and colorful graphics, and wonderful and catchy music.

Great game with a great variety of legendary characters to choose from and a lot of unique movesets, very fun to play solo or with friends, great soundtracks. This game is a must play.

The game that singlehandedly led to the 2D fighter craze of the 90s, Street Fighter II is an innovative title that, by most accounts, invented the vs. fighting genre. The fighting game sports eight now-iconic playable characters, complete with awesome special moves and matching stages. Street Fighter II features solid fighting gameplay but distinguishes itself from the pack with extras like bonus stages.

I never actually played the arcade version of this, only the Super NES port. To gamers' naive eyes at the time, it looked arcade perfect. Honestly, for a fighting game over twenty years old by now, Street Fighter II has aged remarkably well. Don't confuse that with thinking its still as good as it once was, as numerous updates and sequels have rendered this obsolete. Still, it began the fighting game craze of the 90's and was absurdly popular for a spell, so that alone is worth something.

Street Fighter II is an all-time classic. It may look a bit outdated nowadays and it's definitely not a game you would play for hours, but it does its job quite well: there is plenty of fighting action going on. There are many different characters with unique movesets to choose from and you can customize many things like the controls (button configuration) and difficulty (0 = very easy, 7 = very hard) and there's even a sound test! The music is outstanding and memorable, the sound effects are classic and the graphics are good for SNES standards. When I was younger I played this game all the time because it was very motivating to get the highest score! The difficulty is well-balanced and due to different settings, everyone can join the fun

The biggest fighting game of all-time. Because of the later releases of the series this game isn't so important today, but at its time it was fantastic and created the fighting-style as we know today. I just can't agree with all the expansions created for this game, Capcom always was asshole, but even for this SFII is a masterpiece.

The game that made fighting games popular.

The original Street Fighter 2 doesn't stand the test of time, but it gave birth to a zillion re-iterations and spinoffs with sequels to them and a couple of actual SF2-sequels too. It also gave birth the now-oldest active competitive videogame community.
