This is the first Strategy game I played, and is probably the only strategy game that I manage to win XD Perfectly balanced game.

StarCraft is for sure the best competitive game of all time, u need to be skilled like in any other multiplayer game, u need to be smart like in any logic game, u need to think fast like in any real time gaming, u need to predict and think as ur opponent like in a chess game and all those reasons make starcraft the game that

Of all the games I have ever played, this was the one that gave me endless hours of entertainment, simply because of the replayability of multiplayer games. Blizzard was in their prime, the story to the game was interesting, and they created something beautiful. It is a digital work of art, yet to be replicated in scope or importance. It set all the standards and broke all the records. It was awesome.

This game was a classic for me. One of my first b.net games. The user custom maps really put this over the top, I spent more time playing the mini games players made then the actual game. The funnest mini games for me were Sunken Defense and NFL Blitz.

Real time strategy has never been my thing - I only charge in when I know I can crush the enemy in one fell swoop. Of couse at that point the enemy's controlling most of the map, has eaten all the resources, and is sending waves of troops to destroy my base while my massive army is away slowly trying to sweep the board clean. And so I cheated the first play-through. The strategy got in the way of the story for me; not a flaw in the game itself, but just one of impatience on my part. It was a good story though. When I played through for the gameplay, I fell in love with it even more. Nothing in gaming has ever quite matched the feel of leading the insidious and alien Zerg and overwhelming any pathetic Terrans trying to stand in your way.

I think mostly everyone agrees with this one. StarCraft redefined the genre and today still stands up as an incredibly solid RTS. As expected from a Blizzard game, it has a solid storytelling element, which isn't always the case in the genre. It's driven forward by 3 strong factions, some interesting key characters and boasts gameplay which I'd describe in 3 words as: just plain fun. A timeless classic, no doubt.

Take Warcraft II, including the same painfully limited single player options and the same cumbersome interface, add a new layer of complexity, and the result is an even more micromanagement-intensive game. Why are the top Starcraft players treated like athletes? Because that's exactly what they are. Starcraft demands a high level of skill and reflexes - the challenge is physical, not cerebral. And true strategy games are cerebral.
