One of the most atmospherically pleasing games of all time. It takes survival horror games to a completely new level.

Such a good FPS: the guns all feel great, the environment is so atmospheric and fun to explore, the enemies are challenging and fun to fight, the game is very tense and scary at times, everything you carry has weight (even ammo) so you pick and choose what to bring..could go on for a long time. Fantastic game, let down by technical faults (play this with many mods) and a lack of a really good story.

Unbeaten in terms of atmosphere.

Fantastic atmosphere and a great sense of dread. Never knowing whats around the next corner makes for one hell of a good game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brought the horrors of 1986 Chernobyl disaster in a form of a videogame with unique atmosphere and Sci-Fi twists. This open-ended shooter with RPG elements is one of the great reasons to be a PC gamer. Enjoyable and atmospheric shooter that is rough around the edges but it gives the game charm which can not be experienced in todays AAA shooters such as Call of Duty.

A very ambitious title. Realism and semi-open worlds combined with a dynamic AI driven world.

Ask any gamer who likes STALKER why and he will answer with: atmosphere. The setting of STALKER is just unique compared to any other game out there. But a unique setting only gets you so far. Luckily STALKER added atmosphere, a mysterious storyline that encouraged gamers to keep on exploring, a wide variety of weapons and an unforgiving hard AI. But then again, who expects a journey to the center of a core reactor that make all your wishes come through to be a piece of cake? And although initially the game was filled with bugs it kept gamers going and once finished leaving them behind wanting more. The world of STALKER just draws you in. It's a harsh cold and bitter world, but that is what meks it so exciting too.

Atmosphere. It's one of the most important aspects in any game, and few games to date can come close to STALKER: SoC in this regard. STALKER is an oddity because it's a very flawed game; it was incredibly buggy at the time of release, and plays like a game that was made in the 90's. Fortunately, these issues are negated when you take into account how deeply the game draws you into its world. I think making the player feel like they're influencing the world is an important aspect of any game, and SoC does this exceptionally well. The gun play feels great, and going up against many of the game's mutants can be downright terrifying. No other game has made me feel like I was actually inhabiting its world better than STALKER.
