Interrupting years of gory gaming, SoulCalibur, a true-3D weapon-based fighter, brought a new sensation to carnal brutality -- and without any bloodshed. How? With controls so tactile and organic that every attack was given a bold authority, turning the vulgarity of human slaughter into a beautiful display of passion and fury. You could FEEL the thrust of a dagger, the weight of an axe, the surprise of a parry; every sweeping arc of the blade communicated grace and power. And each weapon had a visible range -- an easy basis to begin learning the deepest fighting game in history. With heroic characters, monumental graphics, and royal sound, SoulCalibur remains -- years later -- exotic, majestic, and unmatched even by its sequels.

The best Dreamcast game in my opinion.

Fighting games is one of my favorite genres and the original Soul Calibur was the first fighting games I spent countless hour trying to perfect my skill for tournaments. But the game is the most complete games I ever played. Many things to do in this great game that you'll spend hours playing. The game already brings great game-play, great graphics, and also great music. One of the great things about this game is the replay value. The game is so great Namco in my opinion has had problem trying to make a better sequel. But if you want the best soul Calibur in the series get the original for the Dreamcast or get it from XBOX Live.

While the first Soul Edge was had neat ideas and a cool setting it was with this famous sequel that nailed down the combat, adding the 8 way run among other things. Between that, cool new characters, and of course the fancy graphical advancements as a Dreamcast launch title this deservedly caught people attention as a great fighting game.

The best in the series. Great graphics especially the environments. Mission battle mode provides a lot of depth and lots of content to unlock. Pretty much all the modes you need in a fighting game. Most importantly solid gameplay that can be picked up easily as a beginner (like Tekken) but also has a great deal of depth to it (e.g. mastering Maxi's nunchaku combos).

The sequel to Soul Blade/Edge on the PS1, Soulcalibur not only changed the name of the series but it also perfected the game mechanics, controls.Indeed, state of the art...even in 2011.

Easily one of the best 2 player fighters for the Dreamcast! with outstanding graphics for its time and era, this game really challenges the Dreamcast hardware to its limits!

Easily one of the best one-on-one beat-em-up's ever, if not THE best.
