- I wanna level with you; I personally don't like this soundtrack as much as you do, but for what it is? It gets the job done. There's a select few tracks that I do like pointing out, such as Ice Cap Zone, Hidden Palace Zone and of course Sky Sanctuary Zone. - About the standard of what you'd expect for a 2D game of it's nature. There's some neat sprite effects they did in some levels to emulate a more real environment that were pretty ingenious for it's time. The special stages still look terrible, though... - Don't get me wrong; I may not like this game's music and graphics as much as I would other Sonic games, but that in no way means I don't adore playing through it every now and again.

Sonic 3 is my favorite Sonic game ever made for one main reason: the level design. Replay value is an important part of any game, and Sonic 3 absolutely nails it. The stages are designed so that certain areas are only accessible with Tails or Knuckles. This adds so much to the already huge levels, and makes each area a blast to play through. Another reason why Sonic 3 is great is that it has the best balance of speed and platforming in any Sonic entry. This game probably has the least amount of speed in any classic Sonic game, and that's a good thing to me. It makes it feel more rewarding when you actually do run fast, since it doesn't happen as much. This is why I love Sonic 3 - it's satisfying.

my favorite sonic game ever speeding through ice cap zone or launch base zone and listening to that music and being able to lock it with sonic and knuckles just made it better

Sonic 3 is a game where the mechanics and level design work directly against each other, with the controls encouraging you to move as fast as possible, but the level design limiting the player (for the most part) to carrying out sets of precision jumps that should have never been seen in a sonic game. While the first and last zones give the player enough freedom to explore without getting lost, zones like Carnival Night lack direction (and under a time limit this can become an issue). Credit however has to be given to the aesthetics - beautiful natural environments contrast brilliantly with Robotnik's intricate machinery. The boss fights were also entertaining, building on the core mechanics of the game in intriguing ways.

This game is more of a chore and just frustrating. Worst out the bunch. Tails still to this day has no purpose. Worst graphics out the bunch when you'll think the third of the series and a game that was released late in the Genesis life cycle should be great. If Sonic specialty is speed why set up punishing traps for using it, just dumb level design. Weak ending. I don't ever want to play this game again.

Least favourite of the bunch, though it had some neat ideas. Marble Garden, most of Carnival Night, and most of Launch Base just aren't fun to me because it's too hard to get a good flow going without completely mastering the levels. Oh and I'm not a big fan of the bonus game, so the whole exploration thing is lost on me. The visuals are a step up, with some cool background effects and great spritework, but some of the music is just bland/annoying to me (specifically, those same zones which I don't enjoy playing).

Sonic 3 was my second Genesis game growing up. Before that I only played NES games and the X-Men game for the Sega Genesis. And as much as I love those games, Sonic 3 really blew me away. It was also my first Sonic game and its the most perfectly made game in the entire series, more so than 1,2, Knux, and CD put together. And I know Sonic 3 and Knuckles is really the whole experience and it does kinda complete the game. But Sonic 3 is perfect enough on its own because a few of the and Knuckles level stages seem to drag on for too long and its just not nearly as memorable as just Sonic 3 on its own. Regardless its a game I still play over and over again.

Easily The game (coupled with Sonic & Knuckles) that represents my childhood gaming memories the most, it was full, fast paced and always fun to replay and beat your times. The special stages tested your endurance especially when trying to get a perfect, the levels were long and diverse with routes, designed around all the characters and their specific feature sets, with two sets of 7 chaos/super emeralds and a secret extra level and boss depending on whether you collected all the emeralds it was easily one of, if not THE best title on the Mega Drive (Genesis in the US) with a large story and unique two player/time attack specific stages it was worth every penny/cent. I still play it avidly till this day!
