This is a hard one to rate. When it works it is a fun game, but is clearly lacking in polish and there are many problems with the controls and camera. The Sonic stages are also definitely the best ones, but some of the other characters' levels aren't that bad. Also the music is pretty cool albeit cheesy at times and the Chao garden is great. I also liked how the final boss was actually kind of challenging. I'm not sure if I'd play it all the way through again, but maybe one day I'll come back to do some things in the chao garden and play through a few of the better levels.

I do feel kinda spoilt, since I played the 3D games after this one before actually playing this one and I can say it didn't leave that lasting of an impression on me. The story is fun and creative, being a railroad of character storylines, and controlling Sonic feels pretty smooth. And for the time, I guess it was pretty impressive, especially with the overworlds. But the game has aged terribly. The stages are too short, and the graphics and animations are extremely primitive, even for the DX version. I do like this game, and I wouldn't mind playing it many more times, but compared to future titles, it doesn't hold up to par.

This game brings back memories, angry memories! Trying to figure shit out on this game!

A stupid, in many way bad game with a strange charm. To be honest I never though the 2D Sonics were very fun. They say this one is "press up to win", but the old ones were like... navigate basic jumps with the trepidation of a brain surgeon, avoid going fast, and jump at air bubbles to win. Maybe I'd rather just press up.

Felt like sonic 2 with its exploration and great level design. The bosses were surprisingly fun, and chaos was just awesome. Big the cat was a nuisance, but most other characters had good stories ( especially Gamma ).

Donkey Kong, Rayman, Zelda, and Mario (among others) all had successful transitions to 3D, and when it was Sonic's turn to deliver the goods, he came through in spades. Great gameplay and a surprisingly deep story.

This game's presentation is so all-around wonderful, that you sometimes forget you're playing a game about anthropomorphic talking animals. The story is even pretty decent! Big the cat aside, the characters are all pretty fun to play as, and have fairly distinct gameplay. It's a shame that Sonic has so many more levels than anyone else though. Station Square is one of my favorite world hubs of all time; I wish I could live there, and that it wasn't completely destroyed. :(

Hardcore Sonic fans hate this game, and it's understandable. I mean, who buys a Sonic game to play as a giant cat to fish his missing frog friend? Amy and Gamma aren't very fun at all too, but not horrible. But there's something that must be said about this game, and even the harcore fans have to admit: this is a f***ing awesome game! Everything from Sonic, Tails and Knuckles' stories to the levels, world, characters, main plot and the almighty awesome soundtrack. I played it alot when I was a kid, so it has a very special place in my heart...

Sonic Adventure Review written Thursday, October 20th, 2011 at 07:01 pm.

"I did NOT have sexual relations with that hedgehog." Actually, I did. Even better, we're still sneaking out. Yes, it's become taboo to love Sonic Adventure, owing to its excess characters, cheesy dubbing, and difficult jumps. But the truth is that this game -- like many by Sega -- reveals itself best to those who play it without prejudice. When the Dreamcast was new and 128-bit graphics were novel, prejudice was scarce, hence the acclaim in 1999. But today's angry mobs ignore the medley of levels, the lyrical rhythm and speed, the electric music and color, and the thrill of hitting a spring pad in full-on 3D. And so I admit: "Indeed, I did have relations with that hedgehog." And if I were President, I'd probably bone the interns.
