This is a game that I've been looking forward to playing for a long time, hoping it would be one of the best games I've played. But while it fails to achieve this distinction due to random encounters, it definitely is still a solid JRPG. It is probably one of the most unique games of this category; playing as a pirate who sails the sky, plundering treasure, discovering new things, and even forming your own crew on your own island. I can honestly say there isn't any other game out there that makes you feel like a true pirate as strong as Skies of Arcadia. Granted the ship battles are tedious and long-winded, the world is so inventive and colourful that it is really worth exploring. At least until the random encounters start to annoy you.

Can't make my mind up on whether this is charmingly generic or just plain generic in a bad way. But whatever, I guess I liked it, and I usually don't tend to find RPGs fun, so.

Sky pirates! Executions! Ship Battles! Revenge, love and daring escapes! This is the type of game that makes me realize just why video games were created in the first place.

Not only is Skies of Arcadia the best jrpg for the Dreamcast, it's also my favorite game for the console. Developed by Overworks (also known for creating the Streets of Rage games), Skies of Arcadia is a pirate-themed adventure. But instead of pirates sailing the sea, you're pirates sailing the skies. Thanks to the power of the Dreamcast Skies of Arcadia is one of the prettiest jrpgs from the previous generation of consoles. The soundtrack is also very well done.

My favorite turn-based RPG of all time. You can call it a rip-off of Final Fantasy. I'll call it a huge improvement over Final Fantasy. But my favorite part was how halfway through the game, you become captain of your own ship, crew, and island! Traveling the skies putting together the best possible crew wasn't even a main part of the already epic story! I've played through this thing several times, and each time I've put in well over 70 hours.

Now I remember buying this the day it came out, Dreamcast had a bunch of really good games and on the heels of FFVII and VIII I was wanting to try something that looked a little better, had some awesome looking airship battles but also had that classic RPG charm of games I didnt understand some 6-7 years before. Needless to say Skies is a game to uphold and a game that demands a sequel.

This top notch JRPG is a thing of wonder. The vast airborne world is more interesting and beautiful than anything seen in a Final Fantasy game, the characters and storyline are heartwarming and memorable, and the gameplay is strategic and deep. This game is a grand, lush adventure that you will find yourself longing to return to again and again.

The setting of this game is excellent, and they gave you a real feeling of exploration and accomplishment. It's unfortunate that the story isn't anything particularly original, but they did it well enough that it doesn't detract from the good elements of this game.
