Latest Microreviews on Silent Hill

Silent Hill Review written Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at 12:04 am.

Resident Evil was a living nightmare but Silent Hill took you face to face with the gates of Hell. At the time it was released it may have been the most disturbing game ever created. I still prefer it over any of the sequels. It has a more organic feel to it that satisfies me a bit more over all than the ones that followed. Yes even the famous Silent Hill 2 which seems to drag a touch more than the original. Silent Hill 1 never lets up for a moment. It's still one of the very best survival-horror games ever released. Like my beloved Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem words almost can't do it justice. It's not the overall package as my #4 favorite game yet it doesn't get much darker than this. Not for the faint of heart.

Original and creeping main story of a man finds himself left alone with his worst nightamares materialize inside a wicked town. Graphics and Sound are top notch. Gameplay wise is chosen to be difficult to handle because you are a common man. Lasting appeal is good because you try to reach the legendary UFO ending. Great Konami title.

I'll be completely honest here, in some ways, I like this game more than Silent Hill 2, but in others not so much. This game introduced the town in such a great way it's actually somewhat scary besides the fact that the graphics themselves really needed improvement. I like this game's sound design more than Silent Hill 2 (mind you, they both have wonderful sound design). That's about all I have to say about it, if you haven't tried the Silent Hill games it should be no surprise to start with this one.

Scary and thrilling, but the controls are kind of strange. Makes up for the amazing and scary gameplay, though! Good job, Konami!

If Resident Evil was the first taste, this was the headshot that horror brought to the table. Psychological horror first started here. Its aged badly, a common problem of early 3D gaming, but its still the first and boy did they do it right.

Scary fun

It's basically as if someone had taken all my favourite horror films and -novels and made a game out of them. Absolutely brilliant from beginning to end, one of the most atmospheric games ever made AND the title that introduced Akira Yamaoka to the world (a video game soundtrack that's influenced by Chu Ishikawa or Einstürzende Neubauten? Bring it on!). Was amazingly enough eclipsed by the Freudian, surrealistic work of art that is Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill Review written Saturday, June 16th, 2012 at 08:52 am.

Silent Hill was one of the first games I ever played. When I started, I was too young to know it was scary and just enjoyed running around town and watching stuff get filled in on the maps. I have OCD and the actual nuts and bolts of the gameplay really entertained me. As I grew older, the story and scare factor really began to sink in. Silent Hill has a really complex and vague plot that takes multiple playthroughs to really comprehend. The graphics seem bad at first but the Otherworld segments and FMV are amazing, as is the music. The voice acting improves over time as well. The levels switch over from normal looking to horrific, and the level design is excellent from a visual and gameplay standpoint. A horror classic.
