Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention Review written Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 at 12:07 am.

The mother of all strategy RPGs, most likely. It had a bit of a cheesy storyline but the characters were great and the gameplay made up for it. It doesn't have an outstanding soundtrack but some of those tracks are still drilled into my head after all this time, so that says something. A must for strategy RPG fans.

I generally prefer the SNES' library to the Genesis, but one of the biggest pluses in Sega's favor was the Shining Force games. Nothing too fancy, just a straightforward, satisfying tactics rpg. I think the sequel had a little better gameplay but it's pretty close.

The original and the best - the turn based strategy/RPG hybrid that spawned many clones such as Tactics Ogre, FF tactics, and more recently the Disgaea series.

Fire Emblem can suck it. In all seriousness though, what sets this game apart is its characters. Some of the creatures to join your party include: two birdmen, a robot, a flying magical squid, a centaur with a bazooka, a werewolf, an old man with a flying machine, a baby dragon, a ninja named Hanzou, a samurai named Musashi (see what they did there?), and, strangest of all, an armadillo in a steam powered mech suit. Perfect? No. Fun? You bet your ass!

Okay, I'll admit that some of my love for this game probably comes from the nostalgia factor, but it's still a really fantastic strategy RPG. It has the right level of challenge and fun, it's addictive as all hell, and I love the soundtrack.
