Red Dead Redemption Review written Friday, April 3rd, 2015 at 08:00 pm.

After leaving his gang to lead a more peaceful life of farming, John Marston is captured by the FBI and sent after his old crew in possibly the best open world game ever created. Despite being on last generation consoles, this is one of the most beautiful looking games you could get your hands on. The combat is fueled by the Euphoria engine, meaning that when shot, enemies will grasp at their wounds, try to avoid falling into potentially deadly objects, limp away when shot, and more. The plot is also a wonderfully spaghetti western-inspired setting with hundreds of hours of content to see. This game is a definite grab.

Red Dead Redemption is a modern classic and what I believe to be the pinnacle of open-world games. Definitely the best game that Rockstar has ever made in my opinion. The plot is brilliant and fits the western theme perfectly, with the character of John Marston being the ideal cowboy to control in this time period. What is truly amazing is how this game manages to excel its modern counterpart Grand Theft Auto even though you're stripped down to a horse instead of a vehicle, and the vast landscape of the Wild West instead of the thriving metropolises of GTA. Besides the irritating hackers the online is exceptional and a truly enjoyable experience, but the main reason to play Red Dead is to experience Marston's incredible journey in solo.

Better than GTA. Don't look at me like that. You've thought it too at some point.

From the kings of the sandbox comes an open world experience like no other. The fact that few games experiment with the Wild West setting is a travesty when you realize just how expertly the setting is used from a gameplay and storytelling perspective in Red Dead Redemption. Red Dead Redemption crafts a world that is both ruthless and beautiful. The game does a great job at making you feel like a real cowboy in a way that is difficult to explain. You get the sense that the world around you exists for its own sake, and cares little about you as an individual, and only you yourself can tame the wild frontier.

For the longest time this game was my favorite game ever and still the best storyline I have ever played. Great shooting mechanics coupled with a fantastic online makes this game almost perfect in every facet, before this I had been asking for a western GTA and I got it and boy did they deliver... 10/10

While Rockstar has always been highly regarded by gamers, they've never done anything like Red Dead Redemption before. For one, it is a western, which very few developers have approached. To see Rockstar take such a chance with this time period is truly inspiring. Also, this is the first time I've played a Rockstar game where the story is not only interesting, but emotional. Yes, I love the GTA games, but they never had any emotion in them. Red Dead Redemption changes that and more. The open world is, perhaps, the most beautiful open world in gaming history. I had the opportunity to fast travel, but never did due to the amazing environments. Online play is really fun too since you can explore with your friends. Highly recommended!

Red Dead Redemption Review written Friday, March 21st, 2014 at 02:29 am.

From a technical perspective, it's near-flawless: stellar acting, amazing visuals, a believable and immersive setting, polished controls and gunplay. Yet, the disconnect between the overarching narrative and the gameplay bits does undermine the game. The predictable mission structure of "ride to point A. shoot people. ride to point B." wears thin and exists independently from the cutscenes. Symbolic of this, the overworld seperates the gameplay (the wildnerness) with the story (the towns). In this world, morality exists as a binary. Marston is presented as a deep compassionate sinner, yet kills nonchalantly. It's a technically impressive and fun game that meets objective metrics but lacks any sense of cohesion whatsoever.

The best open world game of all time. Really. There is nothing more badass then riding around the desert on your horse and taking on a raid of bandits with your six shooter. Much like Arkham City, this game really made you feel like the protagonist. The old west has always entertained me, and I really loved the Grand Theft Auto formula, so this game was an instant hit. But to me this game is better than GTA in that you don't feel the need to rush through the missions and screw around. I actually wanted to continue the story and see where it would go. And boy did it deliver. Redeem your lost time with this game and play it now.
