Latest Microreviews on Rayman 2: The Great Escape

Rayman 2: The Great Escape Review written Saturday, June 22nd, 2013 at 06:30 pm.

One of my best childhood games. It has brilliant music and level design, with very good graphics for the time. While it adds nothing new to platforming, it pretty much perfects everything that does exist.

One of the most serene, fun, and flowing platformers ever made. A beautiful game on the Dreamcast that still looks good to this day. This is one of the best aged games ever, which explains why Ubisoft felt they could just re-release it completely unaltered back in 2011. There are few games where platforming feels this natural or relaxing, largely due to the level design and art direction. While the Dreamcast version has aged well, the N64 version lacks some textures, and the PSOne version has levels missing, so get the later versions where possible. Rayman: Revolutions on PS2 is the same game, with a few extra levels but the Dreamcast version plays smoother due to framerate issues on the PS2. Still, both come highly recommended, 9.5/10

A highly underrated 3d platformer. Unlike Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, in Rayman 2 you have to simply make it to the end of a level, but you are usually given more freedom to explore a level than the crash games. The platforming is great here, and you can explore the levels for lums (yellow balls of light) and destroy cages for replay value. The graphics are fantastic, and the music is great as well. The only real problem with Rayman 2 is that the boss fights, except for the last one, aren't very complicated (in fact, one boss just requires you to climb a few platforms and stand on it in order to beat it!). This game should be bought by any platforming fan owning a dreamcast, n64, or ps2 (don't get the ps1 game as that has less level

Nice 3D platformer but I prefer the 2D Rayman games.

It's a peaceful game with an endearing fantasy vibe but can be pretty frustrating sometimes and there's nothing truly amazing about the gameplay. Solid 3D platformer.

Best Rayman game. One of the best games ever!

Probably the best platformer on the Dreamcast. Camera is sometimes annoying and there are some difficulty spikes but all in all one of the better examples of platforming in three dimensions.

An underrated classic in my opinion, this is without a doubt one of the best 3D plataformers I've played, every level increases the difficulty pushing you to get better and better if you want to prevail, it required a lot of trial and error to master a level but the game is very forgiving when dying so you will always get another chance; I like the world where the events take place, a funny fantasy world where anything can happened, excellent controls, nice graphics for a 64-bit console and nice story; overall, an excellent video game.
