  • Developed by Lucasfilm Games (1991) on PC, Mac, Amiga
  • Adventure
  • In LeChuck's Revenge Guybrush Threepwood returns in his search for the legendary treasure of Big Whoop. He is now a genuine pirate and has traded in his white shirt and clean shaved face for a dashing blue coat and a beard. This would not be a true sequel if we did not see the return of the villain LeChuck and so, in the true spirit of Monkey Island, Guybrush accidentally helps to bring back LeChuck who, of course, wants revenge. The game itself has evolved much since the original. It feels about four times bigger and includes four different islands. Some of the puzzles are very hard and therefore you can select to play the game on "easy mode" for beginners.

Latest Microreviews on Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Review written Monday, August 18th, 2014 at 12:18 am.

An undisputed comedy classic, the sequel to the original Monkey Island improved on everything that Secret of Monkey Island set out to do. Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge offers a larger map to explore, more characters to interact with, a darker tone, a more complex story, more puzzles, and a deepened mythos. Suddenly the world of Monkey Island wasn't just a backdrop for Guybrush and friends. It was its own universe that gamers wanted to explore more in the sequels. However, with this intention to make everything bigger, there is the pressure that the charm from the original Monkey Island could be lost. Luckily, the writing and comedy remains intact as the world of Monkey Island 2 is expanded.

I was an Atari ST kid (go on, point and laugh, I deserve it) so I was initially denied this sequel to the classic classic classic Monkey Island when it was first released. Other than gorging at beautiful screenshots in the review magazines, all I could do was gaze with fiery envy at my PC- and Amiga-owning friends. However, at some point MS-DOS emulation stopped being a freakish sci-fi kind of concept, so when I was finally able to join the club roughly a decade late I was witness to a clever story with funny dialogue and graphics that were excellent for their time, and finally understood what all the fuss was about. But then I should have expected nothing less from LucasArts (RIP).

The best point and click adventure ever made.

This along with Monkey Island 1 was one of the first PC games I ever played. It's absolutely beautiful pixel artwork mixed with all the zany incredibly scripted humour of any Lucasarts Adventure Game. I spent years playing this game finally finishing it when I was old enough to understand logic puzzles. It's a really fun tale that made me want to be a mighty pirate.

The best of the best. Period.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Review written Friday, June 17th, 2011 at 10:44 pm.

Monkey Island 2 was a tough point-and-click puzzler, but it rewarded players with some of the funniest cutscenes ever seen in a computer game. From the expansive library section to the massive island worlds, this game was much deeper than any other point-and-click game that came afterward. Even Grim Fandango couldn't hold a candle to the jokes at the very end of Monkey Island 2.

This game will make you cry like a freakin' baby. And it will do it again, and agin until you can barely breath. It's that funny.

Same Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis feeling for me, almost.
