  • Developed by Platinum Games (2013) on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC
  • Action > Hack 'n Slash
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance chronicles the series of events that resulted in the transformation of Raiden, the protagonist and player character of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, into his cyborg ninja persona, first seen in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Metal Gear Solid: Rising takes place during a point in the series' chronology at which Raiden has already begun his transformation into cyborg form, albeit with a different and somewhat more cruel appearance from the one seen in Metal Gear Solid 4, and will show how Raiden changes from his "Rising self" into his "MGS4 self."

Metal Gear Rising: Revengance may have had a 5+ year deveoplement cycle, but that doesnt stop the game from being 5 hours long.... and trust me that is not a bad thing, however with a game with as much hype as it had, MGR simply felt really disapointing in that regard Ok I am bashing this game way too much. It is still a revolutionary action game, and the best of its kind.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is an amazing game. From game to game, I loved seeing Raiden's transformation. He easily takes Number 1 on my all time favorite characters in video games. From Metal Gear Solid 2, being a simple man on a mission, to Metal Gear Rising, as he plays the God of Destruction. For a hack and slash game, it's an amazing one. Cutting through enemies feels good, and authentic.

Just finished MGR. I have to say that I am not typically a fan of hack and slash games. The main reason I picked this game up is because it has the Metal Gear name attached to it. I went in to it knowing well that it didn't have anything to do with the other Metal Gear games and is and independent title.. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It is not meant to be taken completely seriously. The action is fast paced and over the top. The dialogue is cheesy yet some what entertaining. The story is quite good. It expands a bit on the PMC/ nanomachines story line. The soundtrack fit quite nicely with the fast paced action. Graphics were okay. Character models were great but the environment left a but to be desired. Can't wait for a sequel.

One of the most satisfying action hack and slash games I've ever played because you can literally hack and slash a man to pieces. Cut off his arm, cut out his organs. The game then takes one step forward Kojima style and tries to introduce you to a deep and thought provoking storyline about the means to an end and forcing you to contemplate killing for justice in a game where you can literally only do that. The soundtrack? SENSATIONAL! Need to get psyched for anything? Just listen to this high octane soundtrack for five seconds and you'll be recharged and ready for anything.

Metal Gear Rising is awesome. The controls are good. The graphics look good. The story is good. Music is great. Almost everything is great. Boss battles are fun as well. The only problems are the camera and length. The camera can sometimes be a problem. The game is a bit short as well. It took me seven hours to finish, and can be finished quicker than that if you don't spend time looking for items. Dispite it's length you will still come back to play it again for being fun and to play the V.R. Missions. Raiden's voice changes a lot as well, but you won't notice it much. Hopefully we will get more.

This game may be a bit on the short side (my first play-through on normal was 8 and a half hours) and the story is not as good as the Solid games (except for Portable Ops and 2), I love this game. The strongest parts for me are the gameplay which is some of the best I've seen an action game in ages due to the great level design and incredibly addicting combat, the bosses are very fun and memorable since they provide a good challenge, and not to mention the soundtrack which has become one of my all time favourite game soundtracks. Overall, don't be turned off just because it's not like the MGS games, it's easily one of the best games of this generation (better than MGS4 honestly) so I would say it's definitely worth the money.

11/10/2011: Metal Gear Solid is all around my favorite game series but I am not totally pumped for this one... yet. The reason is, we know what happens before this game (MGS2) and what happens after it (MGS4). I don't know what kind of compelling story it could tell but the forte will probably be the gameplay and the ability to play as a bad @$$ cyborg ninja for the first time.

MGS was never a series I was fully into perhaps because the PS2 was my secondary console. MGS:R though is not only coming to the PC, but looks like the most gruesome and awesome iteration of the series in gameplay aspects to date. Let's hope the story will be more conservative like Snake Eater though and less like MGS4.
