Latest Microreviews on Mega Man X

Mega Man X Review written Monday, January 25th, 2016 at 10:41 pm.

By improving on the Mega Man formula, Mega Man X offers an innovative experience that remains the best in the franchise. My reason for loving it is the controls. They just feel so right, with new features like the dash and the wall jump adding a new dimension to platforming. Simply put, Mega Man X is remarkable.

Man, I love this game. I'm sure that I'm not the first to say it either. Mega Man has always been one of my favorite - if not, my favorite - gaming franchise. And wow. This game really brought it home. I love the MM Classic series, but compared to this game, those games need to be burned. Once again, I love those games, but this is THE Mega Man game that I always return to and will never leave. Speaking of replay value... JESUS CHRIST!

one of the better Megaman games, it is a good fast moving 2D side scrolling game. Has a good feel about the game play and doesn't feel forced.

I raped this game when I was a kid, always getting better and better

Revolutionized Mega Man. An amazing classic. I have something that I call "second-hand nostalgia". It's when I observe or play a game that was made when what some people would call a 100 years ago, but I get all the feelings and emotions as if I were a kid playing that game when it was new.

While this may lack the intense difficulty of its predecessors, the game gave a more dark storyline and gave Mega Man access to more abilities like being able to climb walls, charge his subweapons, and headbutt through certain blocks.

A solid action game, one of the best for the SNES, but after all the hype it receives I was a bit disappointed. I don't think it innovates the formula enough and the sequel had a better flow to its levels (it also had the courtesy of giving you the dash right away instead of making you always begin with a specific stage). The buildup to the finale is the best of the trilogy, as is the music, but the finale itself is just tedious. Finally (hurrhurr), I much prefer the more minimalistic visual style of the NES series to this somewhat bloated, more is more approach, but this is a minor gripe.

The first Mega Man game with an actual plot? Egads! Mega Man X was an unusual jolt to young gamers at the time, since most of us knew MM on the NES as a cute little blue guy. Now he was grown up and beating the piss out of penguins and elephants. Still, this game is just as fun as the early NES titles, maybe even more so. Its everything one can like about Mega Man, nothing more than side scrolling action. Capcom sure loves to milk its franchises to death, and this just gave them a whole new line to recycle into the grave.
