Latest Microreviews on Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle

Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle Review written Thursday, July 11th, 2013 at 02:12 am.

7.0Good

Well executed time travel concept and story here, with cartoon quality visuals to reel you in. I actually laughed a few times, which is not common for me when playing games that try to be funny. That said I think some of the puzzles are pretty dumb, and the soundtrack isn't nearly as memorable as in the prequel (NES ver.) for the most part (though still quite fitting in style). Highly recommended, but have a guide ready to keep the experience smooth.

9.0Fantastic

Quirkiest point-and-clicker ever. I recommend this to anyone who loves the genre as much as I do. Also, one of the best stories involving time-travel.

"Day of the Tentacle" was one of my first adventure games and still marks my personal highlight, as it contains some of the most resourceful puzzles, characters and settings of any Lucas Arts adventure. I mean it has a hamster in a microwave, talking tentacles and George Washington. What's not to love?!

This game just narrowly missed the number one position in my list. Incredible game, humor and story. At the time I first played this I had never tried the original Maniac mansion but it didn't matter to me. I loved it. Time traveling toilets. Next to perfect.

10Classic!

During a failed time-travelling experiment early into the story of "Day Of The Tentacle", your three playable characters are split up in three eras of the same house: past, present and future. The goal is to find a way back, but also to avert Purple Tentacle's menacing world domination. That's right: familiar characters are returning to the Maniac Mansion in a more modern cartoon look - which appeals to both, older and newer gamers. Playing this point-n-click adventure four-dimensionally, your changes in the past affect the future and items from the future can be sent to the past. This mechanic makes for some great puzzles - and brilliant humor. You can even play the predecessor in its entirety in an in-game arcade - sweet!
