  • Limbo is a side-scrolling puzzle platformer set in a sinister, monochromatic world. The player controls a protagonist simply known as the The Boy, who is said to enter the world Limbo in search of his sister. However, the story as a whole can also be seen as a metaphor for the search for companionship and getting around in a new environment. Not a single clue is given at the start, there are no cut-scenes and the game starts right away. In that world filled with hazards and danger, his means are few and he is extremely vulnerable. Only two buttons are used, a feeble jump and one to perform an action, combined with movement.

Sometimes less is more, this game uses minimalism effectively. A creepy and unsettling game

The (notanymore, copied widely) unique aesthetics of this game defined a whole new kind of jump'n'run - horror genre. You have no weapons and can't carry anything, just jump, run and use objects to escape the horror.

Limbo is a puzzle game that is about death. Plain and simple. You play a boy who appears to be in some sort of hell or purgatory and must find his way. Visually, no game is like Limbo. It has a very gothic and depressing look to it that makes you feel uneasy. The music, which is almost nonexistent, helps the game form its dark themes. Many of the puzzles can be quite hard and confusing, even after playing Limbo so many times. Limbo is another game that, just like Journey, is open to interpretation. Many gamers have stated their opinion about what the game is about and the meaning of the ending, but I think it's safe to say that you can interpret Limbo in any way you want.

Beautiful, unique, touching, and a blast to play and get through the puzzles. It's a bit on the short side, and playing it today might seem like this being another indie 2D platformer with artsy black and white... but this game inspired most games like that in the past few years. Truly an impressive feat, this game, one of the finest XBLA games.

The game is amazing, great atmosphere, simple story or that's what it seems like at first, creepy which is definitely a plus and of course fun, the puzzles are easy and the gameplay is pretty good. The game was an awesome experience.

Props for telling a compelling story using the medium's strengths and keeping at least some things open to interpretation. LIMBO is kind of a modern another world/shadow of the beast type of thing, only more forgiving. The PC version unfortunately has like a .3 second delay in the controls, making it quite frustrating to play when adding the (mostly) trial & error design of the game into the equation. The pacing also suffers a bit during the latter half, where the game focuses more on block pushing and gravity control puzzles and where checkpoints are a bit further in-between (not so in action heavy parts, a minus for me). There's replay value in collecting hidden eggs here and there, but the bonus stage that this unlocks isn't worth it.

Although limbo was supposed to thrive off it's experience and world, while it does this very well, i feel the gameplay is where most of the fun lies in this game. Puzzles are sometimes really difficult, and the world brings twists and turns almost all the time.

Good thing that there are infinite continues and generous checkpoints in "Limbo", a macabre 2D platformer with a little lost boy in the woods - because the controls are awefully unresponsive and you're gonna die a lot. Especially the jumping: more often than not, you unintentionally jump right after climbing up a ledge, which messes up your timing. The black & white visuals and eery atmosphere are fairly sweet - simple, yet unique & distinctive. The game has little cutscenes and less hand-holding (big +), but some of these physics-based puzzles are kinda stupid, imho; to balance it out, others were rather smart. It lacks replayability and I still can't decide whether it's a good or bad thing that there's barely any music. Seriously.

The best game of 2010. Don't even try to deny it.

Limbo is just shy away from being a superb game. It starts off brilliantly, with great atmosphere, simple puzzles and platforming. Later on it, as if there had to be some kind of a trade off, it loses the atmosphere and (little as it was) storytelling to gain complexity in the gameplay department. I'm not too fond of the ''trade off'', since Limbo as a platformer needs some serious tweaking, although saying that it's a great puzzle game. Pros: Great puzzles, awesome secret level, unique art style Cons: Troublesome controlling can lead to some needlessly aggravating sequences, barely any traces of a story(telling), the art style can be tiring on the eyes, if only there was more exploration
