Latest Microreviews on Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Review written Monday, August 18th, 2014 at 10:22 pm.

The Legacy of Kain series is one that wreaks of wasted potential. Themes of betrayal, power, black vs. black morality, and fate perpetuate the series. The complex themes present are backed up by a complex storyline, lofty writing, and masterful vocal performances. However, the series was plagued by clunky controls and ultra-confusing puzzles. Despite all of this, the second installment, Soul Reaver, stands out among the rest for making these problems seem far inferior to the overall presentation. The story and atmosphere is what keeps you playing Soul Reaver, and never again would the series exhibit the same level of poignancy that Soul Reaver reaches within the first few minutes of its playtime.

I never really got into this for some reason, but it had some pretty solid combat mechanics and a unique art style. Entertaining.

What can i say about Soul Reaver other than it's utterly brilliant! It takes some of the best voice acting in gaming, mixes it with a memorable setting, some of the best characters in the history of all of gaming and gives you it's equivalent to shakespear.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Review written Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 at 12:09 am.

While combining gameplay elements from classic games like Pitfall and Mega Man in a new 3D environment, at the same time "Soul Reaver" offered elements that debatably revolutionized the industry: be it the streaming of levels (Grand Theft Auto III) or the sucking of souls (Onimusha). The core element of this game however clearly is the story. Overall complex enough to span over five "Legacy Of Kain" games, the SR series alone is so engaging in its own that you can't help but applaud the makers of this game. And for good reason, because director and writer Amy Hennig took off and played a major role in yet another masterpiece, namely the Uncharted series. The brilliant voice acting rounds it all up splendidly.
