A very emotional experience

Heavy Rain Review written Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at 04:30 pm.

Heavy Rain does what many games try to do, but usually fail at. It creates an atmosphere and story that draws you in and keeps you on edge throughout. In order to interact with certain things, you must use your analog sticks. Actually, almost every action, whether opening your car door or getting up from bed, requires your controller. Fighting requires you to follow the on screen actions as they appear. If you mess up, you have the ability to change the story. I love the fact that the story has many different ways of ending. The only thing that I had a problem with was that there were certain characters I cared about more than others. It's not a big deal, but it definitely was a factor in how I choose the story to play out each time.

The excessive violence, plot holes, unrealistic action scenes and rampant sexism make this title more of a conventional video game than a higher form of entertainment. However, the mysterious convoluted plot is so engaging, it succeeds in showing us how amazing games can be when they do focus on narrative. Your decisions are final, your mistakes are irreversible and the game rolls with all of your punches, which all solidify an enthralling sense of immersion.

Heavy Rain sees you take control of the four protagonists of an incredible drama where you find out how far you?re prepared to go to save your son?s life. With over 20 endings, Heavy Rain is incredible.

Drags a bit but still a great game.

Heavy Rain Review written Friday, June 28th, 2013 at 08:50 am.

Heavy Rain is one of the most mature themed games out there, and unlike the traditional format of your average game. This game tries to take on a perspective of emotion; it tries to connect to life. You won't find many games like this, where its main appeal is to connect to your emotions. I played this game in Ethan Mars' perspective, making the choices as if I were in his shoes. And I can easily say it was one of a kind. Although there are a few plot holes, they can be overlooked for what is most important: the emotional appeal of the game between itself and the player.

Heavy Rain is a game to be experienced, not played. Avoid playing the game as a choose-your-own-adventure game, and it will be well worth trying.
