Literally the first game every bought for me. At the age of 5-6 it made me fall in love with JRPGs and video games.

A begining of my love for RPG's. I did like Final Fantasy on the NES, but this solidified my fandom of the Final Fantasy series. I love the characters, I love the plot, I love the structure and it's pretty much the template for what I consider my favorite type of game.

It's fine, but the PS1 version is harder and the DS version is prettier. There are better options.

I've played multiple versions of this game, but the fact is it hasn't aged well imo. The games structure is really restrictively linear, the set classes make combat boring, and the story, while involved for its' time, is neither charmingly simple like the earlier games or as grand as the later sequels. Despite a few good characters and turns, it's still archaic. Heck, I even find the music to be forgettable compared to a lot of other FF titles. It's a nostalgic title for many but to me it's one of the most forgettable Final Fantasy games.

The first of the FF series to truly embrace the story-driven concept that the rest of the series then inherited. I have no shame in admitting Ii was moved to tears a few times along the story.

Great storyline, characters, soundtrack, dungeons. One of the best games in the FF series.

When Square released it's first game for the Super Nintendo, they thought real big because Final Fantasy IV became a fan favorite and with reason. Great and detailed graphics for the time, deeper and better battle system, beautiful soundtrack with some culturally important tunes and the very first amazing story of the series with many memorable characters and alot of emotional scenes and dramatic weight. Many may not like it because it hasn't aged that well, but the truth is that this game set the standards for how to make a story-based Final Fantasy!

This game blew my mind and set the standard for the level of storytelling that could take place in the medium of a video game. There would be no Final Fantasy 7 without Final Fantasy 2 breaking all kinds of new ground for what a video game could communicate as an art form. The world took on a life of its own, and while plenty of fantastic games (many of which occupy the remaining slots on my list) manage to do the same, Final Fantasy 2 was the first and best true RPG. A sweeping musical score, great characters and all kinds of subplots built around a central tale, and engaging gameplay made Final Fantasy 2 (which I will always refer to it as, by the way, instead of "Final Fantasy IV") my greatest game of all time.

Still one of the best RPGs out there
