Latest Microreviews on Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy Review written Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 12:45 am.

Final Fantasy's humble beginning certainly isn't for the faint of heart. Despite being quite novel both in terms of design and storyline in 1987 (when it was released in Japan,) its awkward and archiac by today's standards. Its a clear reminder of how difficult RPGs once were before they became a staple of the casual gaming audience. The remake is signficantly easier, and probably holds more appeal to most for that very reason. Even so, its hard not to be impressed at how amazing those enemy sprites were, almost like they jumped off Amano's pages. An impressive historical piece if nothing else, but its still one of the most definitive 8-bit RPGs you can find.

Nobuo Uematsu's score basically sells this game. The story and combat are good but that music? Wow.

The original release wasn't as good due to the limited capabilities of NES, but the remake is awesome.

I don't think the series got good until III when they came up with a decent job system. The game is hard and a little fun but not worth it.

Suffers from a severe lack of fun and excitement. I love how everyone is being all 'I was down with FF from the beginning' when the reality is that most of you wouldn't touch a game like this back then. The games simply weren't worth the time investment at this early stage in the genre's development.

Let the Fantasy begin! As much flaws as it has compared to it's sequels' improvements and tweaks, It is still a console role-playing masterpiece! You can see how influential and important it was today, and how it completely morphed the J-RPG into it's own genre. Immense world to explore with incredible detail for it's time, innovative battle design with Dragon Quest's turn-based battle system, good graphics with it's distinct art style, groundbreaking sound design with an inspiring soundtrack and an epic fantasy story. This wasn't the first Final Fantasy i've played, i've played and completed many before trying this one, but it still impressed me and got me entertained all the way through. It was a new beginning for Squaresoft!

At this time Final Fantasy just was fighting with Zelda for the best RPG title, obviously Zelda won that time. But Final Fantasy, the first is the second best RPG of the 8-bit era, making another ones like Phantasy Star just biting the dust.

The first and the last, Kind of funny how they say it's the Final fantasy but too many people have made that joke already. in this age where we've gotten to Final Fantasy XIII (or XIV... I can't remember) it is the strong consensus of the group that Square needs to stop it and remake FFVII, it would sell like cupcakes at a fat camp. Then no more final fantasy ever. They are now beating a zombie horse, it may look like it's still alive but it can't feel it when you light it on fire much less hit it with a stick.. do the right thing and shoot the thing in the head then find a new, better horse... Still This first title in the series will always be my favorite. So thank you Square for your hard work in this industry.

While I personally have never played the original Final Fantasy without this game one of my favourite game franchises / game companies would not exist.

I played this game about 6 months ago on the iPad, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience it provided. It's really a case of going back to basics, but where the basics work as intended. I can wholeheartedly recommend grabbing this game. It's well worth the price...
