DmC: Devil May Cry

  • DmC: Devil May CryBuy on Amazon - Copy URL
  • Developed by Ninja Theory (2013) on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC
  • Action > Hack 'n Slash
  • Detailing Dante's early years and set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry will retain the stylish action, fluid combat and self-assured protagonist that have defined the iconic series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge. The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. He is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement.

Latest Microreviews on DmC: Devil May Cry

In all honesty I think the Devil May Cry series was getting really stale, and this reboot is just what it badly needed. The music's good, the combat is fast and fluent, the characters actually have decent character now and the story's pretty enjoyable. The game's strongest point however is it's level designs which at points are just genius, trust me you probably haven't seen anything like it's dreamlike upside down stage, or it's Bob Barker boss fight. Pure creative genius!!

Needs a lock on feature and it would be perfect.

I don't like this game, I don't like the characters, and I don't like it even more when I compare it to DmC3. This could be the first DmC that actually does platforming right, so, thanks. The music has less soul and has been replaced with wub's. The gameplay is more casualized and it's way easier to get/keep S-ranks. The story and characters are where it really comes at fault. The story is wannabe little brother to the matrix. The dialogue is disgusting at times, just shamefully bad. Donte here does develop halfway through from a super-douche to a not-so-much-of-a-douche. sadly, Vergil and Kat are far worse than there DmC3 counterparts. However... now matter how much disdain I may have for this atrocity, I can't give it less than a 6.

11/10/2011: Some people are apprehensive about this game and I can see why. The awesome "Dante" has been replaced by a new main character and the game seems to be fit in an alternate universe of the Devil May Cry series. Team Ninja has made some good linear single player games (Heavenly Sword, Odyssey: Journey to the West) and I think these guys can handle it alright. It might not be as good as the original, but I think it won't be awful.

Not too keen on Dante's new look, but as long as the gameplay is good, this one should be fun.
