  • Developed by Westwood Studios (2000) on PC
  • Strategy > Real-Time
  • Like the original, Red Alert 2 pits the Russians against the Allies, but this time it's on American soil. A post-World War II invasion by Romanov and Yuri, aided by a Psychic Beam for brainwashing US citizens, must be repelled. Lead 9 different nations in this all-out war for survival. Each side has ground troops, tanks, aeroplanes and sea units, although there are differences between the sides in which units can attack which others, largely based on real life equipment (for example, the US' AEGIS cruisers can only attack air units, but can beat almost any). Lots of fictitious technology is also featured, including new weather control devices and deadly animals.

Fast Paced action filled RTS with unique and sometimes weird buildings and units, a great campaign with great level designs and of course awesome multiplayer, this is a great game that took many hours of my life.

I didn't play much of Red Alert 1, and I gotta admit that this was the first episode of the saga I played. Maybe it's partly because of that, but to me, this totally beats every other episode. Silly storyline with amazing cutscenes, crazy weaponry like nukes, time machines and more. Lovely infantry, I could spend hours rushing bases with Tanya alone. Plus a great editor, an awesome multiplayer, and the expected depth from a C&C game. It hardly gets any better than this. Easily one of the finest RTS games ever.

I think what makes Red Alert 2 so great is its speed. The previous Command & Conquer games had a much slower pace, but Red Alert 2 cranks the speed up and offers a constant adrenaline rush. It isn't necessarily the most balanced game, basically coming down to who can build the most tanks first, but once you start playing, you'll be hooked. Red Alert 2 also features some very good music, particularly the new version of Hell March, and two different campaigns that showcase each playing style perfectly. It's campier than its prequel but it is also very funny; much like in a cheesy 80s action flick, what is normally bad actually ends up good. If only EA didn't ruin this franchise...

This game does not take itself too seriously, but it takes the gameplay and tactics completely seriously and the result is great, it was nice to play a lighthearted RTS game, I had hours of fun from this game.

This was where the Command & Conquer series officially left behind its subtle humor and serious storytelling for camp humor and being ridiculously over the top. Of course, it was actually funny, almost like a parody of war games while still being able to be taken seriously. The idea of Russians invading the U.S. played on real Cold War fears, albeit in a completely overblown manner. Still, the gameplay itself was addictive and just engrossing. It was campier and goofier than previous games, but good heavens was it just as fun (if not more so) to play. In fact, I don't know any other RTS game since that is as legitimately entertaining. Damn near flawless, if I'm to be honest.

I used to play this game waaay to much. Up to the point of going round my friends house just to get a chance to play RA2 with them and piss about in the map editor! It was all about the crazy custom maps that you could play online :P It's also got a killer soundtrack.

"Armageddon is here" ... "We'll being down the heavens" Fast-paced and relentless action in addition to some of the best unit quotes of all time.

I love the Command & Conquer series, and this is the best of them. The best balanced and the most fun to play. Classic
