Latest Microreviews on Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Review written Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at 05:15 pm.

To me this is the best overall post SOTN Castlevania game. It takes place in the 1800's directly after the era of Richter Belmont. The Belmont clan mysteriously vanished! So everyone thought...I won't give it all away but the only hope was SHANOA! The famous whip doesn't make an appearance for the first time ever. She uses "Glyph Symbols" & there are over 100 to create wonderful magic attacks & all sorts of other versatile things. I Love the look of this game it's very stylish with substance. The Soundtrack is great not on par with a few other past titles but still very good. It kind of one ups Portrait of Ruin without being COPYCAT like Aria & Dawn. It's a breath of fresh air to Castlevania. P.S. I like Lords of Shadow 1 & 2 also!?!

Blatantly copy+pasted recolored levels is pretty inexcusably lazy, I think. Contrary to popular opinion Castlevania has been trying to hit that stride as an interesting, trustworthy series again since Harmony of Dissonance, and even though this is one of the less boring attempts, it doesn't quite deliver. It's not even that hard despite the very artificial unfair-on-paper ways that it's difficult (completely randomly determined items preventing you from being able to buy certain potions, etc)

Fourth favorite Metroidvania

Awesome game with incredible depth. The glyph system is versatile and addicting, reminiscent of the soul system from Dawn of Sorrow. Plenty of things to do; should keep one busy for quite awhile. Graphics and sound are gorgeous. Shanoa is a superb female lead who should serve as an example that women in games can indeed be strong and self-sufficient. The story is excellent, packed with symbolism and depth, which is welcome especially for a largely formulaic series like Castlevania. Best CV for the DS and most likely in general.

Easily the best Castlevania for the DS. Enjoyable soundtrack, likeable characters (By Castlevania standards), and loads of replayability make this a standout title in an already excellent series.

A bit more straightforward, but at the same time best Castlevania for DS.

Shallow button masher due to idiotic design defeating each of its game mechanics. There is no point in using unions because you stop receiving money unless your hearts are full, & hearts don't refill by themselves nor at save points! And why does attacking require 2 buttons?? This accomplished nothing because it's still better to equip the same weapon twice. Lastly, while in DoS you could switch equipment with a single button press, in THIS you have to use L/R while holding down A, which is really asinine, & for what?? So you can choose from 3 equips instead of 2? For christ's sake why not just make it so either X or Y button attacks with both arms?! That would be pretty much like having 2 equips at the same time!! uuggggh
