  • BioShock is considered the spiritual successor of System Shock 2 and mixes first-person shooting with role-playing elements. In the year 1960 a plane crashes in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with you as the only survivor. You have the apparent luck of resurfacing in front of what looks like a door to an underwater complex. Without hesitating, you enter the door and soon you are taught that this is the city of Rapture, a paradise of free will build in the 40s by Andrew Ryan, visually and socially inspired by objectivism of Ayn Rand. However, even before you assimilate all this new information, the descent to this supposed paradise ends and you only see ruins and chaos. Learning about the destiny of Rapture will be now your main motivation while you have to survive to the horrors that the free will can create.

One of my favorite games ever. So immersive and so much depth. Genuinely good story, amazing atmosphere...graphics...gameplay...rpg elements, there's too much stuff to mention that I love about Bioshock. It's one of the best games to come close to being an interactive movie and Rapture truly was a living breathing world they created.

Bioshock's placement in my list only stands if you play the game with the Vita chambers deactivated. If you do, Bioshock is an extremely thrilling adventure set in a beautiful but disturbing world.

A classic... smart, immersive, satiric horror game, though not nearly that scary for me, nothing like Scratches or Penumbra etc, but that's good for me cause I can't play those games lol. Also nothing like Infinite - this game still remembered what System Shock was and why it was great. Full of amazing, inspired dialogue and quotes that will never be forgotten, twisted personalities, incredible, unique world. Pretty much linear, but different options on how to approach combat, and things such as taking pictures to gain damage bonus and other perks made gameplay varied.

An instant classic & the game that eventually brought us the masterpiece Bioshock Infinite. To me that game has brought us to a new epitome of gaming. Bioshock is super it has a unique & at the same time universal feel to it. No wonder it's so beloved by so many gamers. Brilliantly paced story telling, amazing environmental interactions, philosophically high concepts, frantic encounters with Big Daddies & Little Sisters. It can be a bit disturbing to a degree as well. Of course the megalomaniacal Andrew Ryan is one of the most memorable videogame character's in history. Bioshock is intense that's for sure. Don't get me wrong I Love the atmosphere plus in can see how some prefer it to Bioshock Infinite. The original is epic!

The BioShock series has the absolute best storytelling in the history of gaming in my opinion. The fps gameplay is good -VERY good- but not quite on the same level as the story. The plot twist in this game was absolutely mind-bending. I had tons of fun with this game.

Bioshock is a very dichotomous game for me. It provides some of the best storytelling and lore I've ever seen in gaming. It's atmosphere is both beautiful and disturbingly alluring. On a high-level, it's a masterful game, but it's core gameplay devolves into typical shooter tropes instead of elevating itself to the weight of the story. It's easier to justify an entire structure based on menial fetch quests with "you have no free will" than actually give the player a meaningful role in Rapture. As a result, I couldn't get too emotionally invested in such an evocative world. I marvel at it's ambition, yet grow bored of it. In Rapture, I remember a lot of things I saw, but very little of what I did. And that's unfortunate.

I love Bioshock's setting and story. Not a fan of modern FPS, but I was stunned at Bioshock's amazing execution.

This is an awesome game, it has an amazing storyline with a really amazing atmosphere. The game is set in the 60's but manages to pull of the futuristic look at the same time. The game mechanics are great. Honestly I feel like my words can't to it justice, just go play it.
