  • The goal of the game is to construct a safe haven in the wake of the Calamity, a cataclysmic event that shattered the world into a series of floating islands. As players journey into the wild unknown in search of survivors and supplies, they will confront strange beasts, forge an array of customizable weapons, and gain new powers from specially-brewed spirits. The entire play experience of Bastion is dynamically narrated, gradually revealing a rich backstory as the narrator reacts to the player's actions in real time.

This game is easily the best game i have ever played, it's hard to explain the feeling you get whilst playing this game without describing the experience as both happy and sad. I still listen to the soundtrack and it gives me shivers from the experience i had becoming "the kid" and learning this beautifully intricate story and bash through wave after wave of enemies at the same time. This game is the perfect example of a game that is a work of art. You will feel something during this game, and you will never know what that feeling is. The cover of this game describes your experience to a T. Not especially happy, not especially sad, but existent.

Great atmosphere and a great story. The narrator is awesome and the game is very fun. To me though what matters in a game is the soundtrack and this game in particular has one of the best soundtracks, a real masterpiece...

This is the best story, best narrative and best art style in game I've ever seen so far. And amazing music too. And not only that, but all these things work towards one goal: to tell the story and share the emotions that this story is about. All in all, my favourite gaming experience ever.

A stunning and unique look, with a fairly standard top-view action-RPG gameplay. That about sums it up really, if you're in for a one-of-a-kind experience, don't look further, just don't expect a deep gameplay.

The gameplay is nothing you haven't seen elsewhere, but the art, story and sound make this one of the greatest experiences out there.

Okay. When 7 people end up making a game that has a good story, fantastic music, fun gameplay, as well as have Logan Cunningham as the narrator, I think we should all be impressed.

something different

Bastion Review written Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 at 01:46 pm.

Bastion's greatest triumph is establishing a memorable and original atmosphere - the beautiful colour palette, interactive environment, and evolving soundtrack all help to immerse the player in a creative world. The fantastic narration also deserves recognition, with player-personalised audio clips giving personality to every moment. The combat is simple but enjoyable, only occasionally seeming repetitive. The variety in weapons is great, but once a few of these have been upgraded there's little reason to switch between the others. Most of the progression mechanics in this game seem poorly implemented, with leveling having little visible difference, and overpowered upgrades removing any sense of challenge for the last quarter of the game.
