  • Developed by Nintendo (2012) on 3DS
  • Simulation > Virtual Life
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS features a big change from previous titles like Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: Wild World, with the player now becoming mayor of their town instead of just owning a house there and paying off a mortgage. As mayor, some actions players can take include determining the layout of their town, setting shop hours, placing various items outside--such as bridges, benches, roads, lampposts, etc.--creating your own designs for both clothes and furniture, altering the look of City Hall, and setting up your own exhibition on the second floor of the museum. You do not have to work alone, as your secretary Shizue, a clumsy, absent-minded dog, is always available to help you in your office.

I usually pass on Animal Crossing games, because most of them couldn't match the charm of the first version. New Leaf is a fresh change of pace, though. The portable version's graphics look amazingly sharp. The surround sound truly immerses people into nature. The Internet features connect people to other towns and worlds in a snap. Animal Crossing finally became the world I'd always dreamed of.

This version of Animal Crossing is a MASSIVE improvement compared to other A.C games that came before it. There are a large amount of customization options that you did not have in any other game, and while i Have not yet been able to use the Town travel option, It seems as if there are some bugs here and there, but none the less a fun and interesting game. I find myself having a hard time however in having this game keep my attention for more than an hour or two at a time, before i run out of things to do and i have to save and wait until the next day to do anymore.

Where past Animal Crossing games felt a bit more like expansions of each other, New Leaf feels like a proper squeal packed with old and new features. The visuals are better than they've ever been, and it works much better on a portable system than a console. This is a game you might play only an hour or two at a time, but you'll be coming back nearly every day.

I got the download code for this from the Too Many Games offer on Saturday, 15th of June. I downloaded Animal Crossing: New Leaf onto my Aqua Blue 3DS before breakfast. Then I spent three hours catching butterflies to sell to a Pink Sheep, and with the money, I paid the deposit on a house. This is a game I shouldn't like. It has next-to-no action, little strategic depth and a storyline that anyone could of thought up. And yet, it is one of the best games I've played. You arrive at Buttcrack (or whatever you called your town) on the train. You become mayor. And nobody in the 'real world' ever sees you again. But what is the 'real world'? Honkington (or whatever you called your town) is real now. And you will never leave.

Most of the features of the other animal crossing game's with much more included. Being able to randomly go to peoples worlds is incredibly addicting. One of the many essential games for the 3DS. Can't really review this, just experience it for yourself.
