Alone in the Dark (2008) Review written Monday, December 17th, 2012 at 11:52 am.

4.0Meh

You can't fault this game for lack of ambition- it tries to do so many things that it ends up feeling unfocused and sloppy, reaching a bit to far into other genres. You have your floaty driving sections, platforming with and camera angles, first person immersion exercises that border on the absurd. The inventory system is the most obvious example of the game's bizarre fixation with first person viewpoint. Essentially a spin off of the Resident-Evil-of-old style limited inventory slots, your weapons, tools and healing supplies are stored in your jacket pockets which you actually navigate through in first person. Crazy right? The combat is an amalgamation of combining materials to make bombs, clunky shooting, and even clunkier melee combat.

5.5Fine

I understand that the PS2 versus the other versions are different, and once I get my hands on one of the ports my score may change- but dear god, what did I just play? At first it all seemed fun, although the driving section made me want to throw my controller at my TV. The idea was so good, and then it all just began to fall apart halfway through and end up with a nearly meaningless ending. Not to mention it was over VERY quickly, and I was expecting something just a bit longer. I'd still suggest it to fans of the spooky genres, but I seriously just thought this was a huge disappointment.

7.5Great

I got this for seven dollors so i wasnt expecting a great experience. The story is really great and it suprised me. The graphics were good on the characters but the enviroment is what impressed me. The music souds wonderful. If there was something i did not like they were the combat and the driving scenes. I heard that the 360 version was not as good as the ps3 version. I heard it had a lot of bugs and the driving controls were bad. In the ps3 version i still dont like it but there not that bad. The combat in the game does not feel right. But overall for a game I wasnt interested in it suprised me and I recommened you at least give it a chance.

9.0Fantastic

I know what you're thinking, but just hold on. ''WHAT'S THAT THERE DOING THERE?!'' AH! MY EARS! Alright, now, I had low expectations from this title. But when I actually played it, come on, come on, everyone who's played this game, what did you think about the events? That is, what's going on. Please tell me they were awesome, because they totally were. I loved driving around in Central Park, beating the awesome bosses, surviving the sewers, the museum, escaping the crumbling New York City. I loved it all. I experienced little to no bugs, controls were fine, whatever flaws this game had, didn't exist. I played the Inferno version, sue me.
